Shogun Japanese in Rockford

Great atmosphere, amazing food and outstanding service! Shogun can be a tad pricey, but you get what you pay for. If I had to be a stick in the mud, I would point out that the show needs an upgrade. Flip the egg into a pocket, flip the shrimp into waiting mouths and half train half smoking onions are played out.

We always love our visits to Shogun. Always fun and great food and drinks! We usually always go for my son's birthday and sometimes on mothers day. Never a bad experience or meal from here! The birthday package with dessert, song and photo is nice as well. Service has always been great too. Can't wait for our next visit, might be next week 😉

Delicious food as always. I enjoy the cafe side Izakaya 88 is a lounge type of vibe low lights chill music and the menu Includes a tapa style dining as well as the hibachi menu they serve at the live show dinner. I had the Tuna tartar and a calamari teriyaki dinner. Their Sho gun soup is delicious.

I ordered a regular salmon sashimi, and unfortunately it was obviously just unfrozen because it still tasted exactly like ice. I think that due to covid, this place had to or has to freeze their fish, which completely ruins the meal. It didn’t even taste like salmon, just ice. I also ordered a tataki roll which was just okay, the fish on top was weirdThe shrimp hibachi was decent, except the shrimp are extremely tiny, like those little popcorn shrimp places have, and obviously not fresh.I did a call ahead order and was given a 45 min wait time. I got to the restaurant and my food was still not ready, and it ended up being about 70 minutes, which is strange because most of it was frozen. Maybe it had to thaw.Wouldn’t recommend unfortunately

Usually really good.. but this time the portions were way less and veggies over cooked. Of course will be back again and again.

The food and wait staff are amazing. Not to mention the lovely guys who cook your food at the teppan grill are amazing! Great humor and skills all around. I've been here with large and small groups. It's been pleasing every time.

The chefs at the sushi bar were cracking jokes with us, and put up with my constant questions. I want to learn to make sushi at home and they have me some good tips. It is a bit on the pricey side so expect to pay a bit more, but worth it.

Date night with wife was a success !!Had a bottle of wine in the bar area while waiting for our reservation. Sleek and well designed bar area and relaxed ambiance. Seated fast, and our chef was a hoot!. The entire experience was delightful and I will defiantly recommend this location

Nice sushi dinner with my hubby. Tried a few new rolls, very tasty.

Got two rolls, a dragon roll and a spider roll. The Dragon roll was great but the spider roll was overcooked and burnt. They tried to say that's how it's supposed to be, I tried a bite right in fron of the manager and had to spit it out because it tasted like eating ash. Instead of offering to make a new one properly he insisted that if they made another one it would be the same. I am not new to sushi, i get it all the time from several places around here and was in japan for 6 months. Would not recommend the sushi here.

Way overpriced, small portions. I get that it's mostly for the show, but we got stuck in some little off sidenroom walled in from everyone else. Outside sounded like evry table was having a blast. Our cook just made some bad jokes and was pretty lame. Also it was so damn hot in that tiny room. I won't be coming back.

We stayed in a hotel a few minutes away and wanted to eat good Japanese food. We saw this on Google and decided to try it out. I ordered over the phone and pick up was a breeze. The food was incredible! My wife and I enjoyed it so much specially the Miso soup. Highly recommended!

I was here for lunch today. Service was prompt and attentive such that no one's drinks were allowed to run out. As soon as a plate was finished, the empty was promptly whisked from the table by a passing employee. The floors and tables were sparkling clean, and the Teppan chef was a performer as well as a couple. It was a fun experience. Seaweed salad was wonderful.

I have never been a big fan of Japanese cuisine. But I left being very impressed. We ordered the meal for 2 and the Rockford roll. Which was very delicious. I was amazed by the amount of food. We will definitely go again.

Best miso ramen I have ever had and they have a really good sake selection! Definitely recommend this place for a night out with friends or simply for a good meal!

Hadn't been there since they remodeled till today. Loved the soup and salad that comes with the meal before they remodeled. Wasn't the same today. Just wasn't as good as before. Might have been an off night for them, but at $80.00 for two people it won't be high on my list to go back.

Shogun has been a Rockford fixture for many years and they have great Japanese food and drinks. you will see lots of people here on special occasions but its great for dinner anytime. Very reasonably priced always good service. The location is adjacent to what has become the main street of retail for Rockford with most of what shopping is left right around the corner. Highly recommended

Fun place with a big selection. Sushi, hibachi, and several other great dishes. Good place for as celebration at the hibachi our a night out in general.

Great food. Chef managed to hit 8 out of 11 mouths with shrimp tossing. Even allowed the 4 year old to try the egg roll. Lovely time at table 22/1.

Best sushi I've had in my entire life, most amazing friendly staff 100% recommend for any sushi lover

Sushi was really good. Had a group of 6 and made a reservation to sit in one the private rooms where the table is in a "pit". I ordered the spicy tuna (middle), spider roll (right), and I can't remember the last roll but all were tasty. Server checked on us a few times, but not too often. Missing one star because even though the reservation was made to sit in the private room no one seemed to know if it was ok that we sat in there (you have to pay extra to sit in the room) almost like we didn't make a reservation.
